Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr Daichi Sakamoto

Daichi is a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Professor Stuart Conway, working on the redOxKCL programme. He studied chemistry and engaged in developing organic synthesis reactions at the Ibaraki University in Japan before undertaking his PhD study with Professor Shinsuke Sando at The University of Tokyo. In his PhD study, he worked on the synthesis, cellular evaluation, and animal testing of fluorescent molecular probes for hypoxia imaging. By combining these probes with tissue-clearing techniques, he achieved high-resolution 3D imaging of hypoxia in the whole mouse body. He is currently developing fluorogenic hypoxia probes and hypoxia-activated prodrugs. His scientific interest lies in using chemistry and biotechnology to elucidate biology, and more in the future.
